Internet Consumption and Green Energy
The energy consumption of Internet activity produces emissions equivalent to those from the air (about 2% of those on the planet), and if nothing is done in 25 years, the Internet will consume as much energy as all of humanity in 2008. The Durable Group has decided to commit to make Internet a sustainable and eco-centric tool.
Eco-Commitment: Make an Eco-friendly blog or website
The Durable Group in spring 2010, launches a new tool which would offset the energy consumption consumed whilst visiting a website, in partnership with EcoAct. Indeed, for every webpage view, energy is consumed and CO2 emissions are generated, thus contributing to global warming. Eco-Commitment proposed by durable.com calculates and compensates for the CO2 to allow making these ecological sites.
Under carbon trading, EcoAct created and follows a number of projects generating emission reductions of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) in several countries. Each year, the company delivers the VERs (verified emission reductions) of emissions corresponding to all the sites involved with durable.com that fund carbon offset projects selected.
Eco-Commitment is visible on each page of the site in question via a smart eco-commitment. It has installed and uses built-in calculator to count pages viewed on the site. There is also a tab that has a direct link back to the consumer site and tracks the amount of energy consumed and the equivalent CO2 offset.
Once a company undertakes responsibility, Durable creates a company profile that marks the relationship of eco-websites involved with the group. Durable.com compensates eco-commitment of the even the smallest effort made. The site offers different types of subscription and provides access to carbon offset the energy consumed for the less exposed sites. Indeed, they may have the light offers, free registering for sites less than 25,000 visits per month.
About the Group Durable
After creating VeoSearch, the first search engine they created together in 2007, Arthur Pope and William Heintz launched Durable.com in June 2009. Benoit Vasseur joined the team on this occasion, and the trio gave birth to Durable Group, which is now a leading publishers of innovative environmental services. In October 2009, the group acquired Idesmaison.com (construction, renovation and housing development), and in December 2009 launched WalterShop.
The Group received the Scepter of Sustainable Development in 2009 in the category of websites.
The estimated traffic on its site is 1.6 million unique monthly visitors (source: total hearings NR)
